Oktoberfest at Bembridge Harbour
2018's Oktoberfest will be held on Saturday 22nd Sepember
Here's a report of 2017's inaugural event:
Our first Oktoberfest, coinciding with the Bembridge Harbour Food Festival weekend and Isle of Wight Day, was blessed with warm sunshine and light breezes - perfect for the 140 or so visiting boats which filled the Duver visitor's pontoon - although the seasonal chill towards the end of the evening meant the marquee heaters were more than welcome!
Bratwurst sausages, made especially for the event by local butcher W W Woodford & Son, were wrapped in fresh rolls from Bembridge Village's Bakery and served with The Ralvins' Currywurst sauce, "German" fries, Garlic Mayonnaise from the Garlic Farm, coleslaw, sauerkraut, salad and giant Pretzels (perfect with a pint of ale!).
The Water Horse Box Bar - a beautifully converted vintage horsebox - kept things local by serving Island Ales, Mermaid Gin and Rock Sea Vodka as well as wines and soft drinks.
5-piece band Folklore, complete with a Melodeon, lent an truly authentic sound to proceedings, with a sprinkling of numbers even sung in German ... all enjoyed by about 260 visitors and locals who helped fundraise for the Harbour's nominated charity The Sophie Rolf Trust - KissyPuppy. With entry ticket sales and a raffle (for hampers of Isle of Wight produce), over £1,800 was raised on the night for this very special Island charity.
