Windy, wet, unpredictable weather throughout the preceding week meant some boats and rallies took the decision to cancel their visit for the Jazz event, but Bembridge Harbour still played host to 90 visiting boats, whose crews joined Islanders and land based visitors for what turned out to be a wonderful occasion.
The breeze dropped, the sun came out, and over 250 jazz enthusiasts revelled in the magic of Cat Skellington’s old-time gypsy jazz, followed by the Island’s favourite and undisputed trad jazz specialists, the Unity Stompers.
The Island’s only Water Horse Bar (a beautifully converted vintage horsebox) served up wine, Prosecco, beers, real ales, spirits and soft drinks, while The Ralvins team created a sumptuous buffet feast to suit all tastes - and there was plenty of it so no-one went hungry!
A Raffle - first prize, a Hamper packed full of Isle of Wight produce, and 3 further prizes of goodie bags, raised £766 for our nominated charity, The Sophie Rolf Trust - KissyPuppy, and seasonal sales of Bembridge Harbour Fudge (with a twist of Sea Salt of course!) added a further £100. A contribution from ticket sales brings the total raised so far to £1,370.
